Things to know before booking your Benalmádena Cable Car tickets

Booking window

  • Tickets are available both on-site and online, with the latter being the more affordable option.
  • During the peak season from June to August (especially on a weekend), you should book your tickets at least 3-7 days in advance.

Entry and access

  • Your visit begins at the base station at Benalmádena’s Explanada del Tivoli, where you’ll get your tickets validated before entering a cabin that can seat four people.
  • You’ll then begin your ascent to the summit, which will take about 15 minutes one way. Along the way, you’ll see stunning views of the Málaga coastline.

What’s included

  • Your cable car tickets include the round-trip cable car ride, along with an audio guide in each cabin for detailed insights. You also get access to the viewpoints at the summit, along with the various walking or hiking trails.
  • The combo tickets to Selwo Marina and Selwo Aventura include skip-the-line entry to both parks, along with access to all exhibits, zones, and live presentations, including the penguin feedings at Selwo Marina.

Policies and accessibility

  • The cable car’s cabins are wheelchair accessible, provided your wheelchairs are foldable and are less than 70cm wide. The cabins can be completely stopped to ensure seamless entry.
  • Additionally, there’s also a ramo available to facilities for hassle-free access.
  • However, keep in mind that the paths to the North and South viewpoints are not wheelchair accessible as they have slopes along the way. The Central Viewpoint, however, is very close to the top station and has no stairs en route, and is wheelchair accessible as a result.

Plan your visit to the Benalmádena Cable Car

The cable car remains open seasonally and is generally closed during the winter from mid-January to mid-February. Timings vary from 10am or 11am to 5 or 7pm, depending on the season.

Peak season timings: From July 1 to August 31, which is the peak season, the cable car is open from 10am to 11pm.

The Benalmádena Cable Car is located in the town of Benalmádena on Spain’s Costa del Sol, just a short drive from Málaga. It departs from Arroyo de la Miel and ascends Mount Calvario, offering panoramic views over the Mediterranean coastline.

Address: Explanada del Tivoli, s/n, 29631 Benalmádena, Málaga, Spain | Find on Google Maps

Getting there:

  • By bus: Take local buses L1 or L2, or regional lines 121 (Torremolinos–Mijas) and 126 (Torremolinos–Benalmádena Pueblo). Get off at the Tívoli stop, which is just a short walk from the cable car base.
  • By train: Use the Cercanías C1 line and get off at Arroyo de la Miel station. From here, it’s a straightforward walk (around 10–15 minutes) to the cable car entrance near Tivoli World.
  • By car: Drive via the A-7 motorway and take exit 1003 towards Benalmádena–Arroyo de la Miel. Follow signs to Tivoli World, where the cable car base station is located.
  • Cable cars: The cable cars themselves are wheelchair accessible, and can cater to foldable wheelchairs less than 70cm wide. The cable cars can also be slowed down or stopped completely to ensure easy access.
  • Ramps: The cable cars also have ramps for easier access.
  • Summit: The North and South viewpoints are not wheelchair accessible, as you need to traverse slopy terrain to reach them. The central viewpoint, however, is very close to the arrival station and can be accessed, as it doesn’t involve navigating stairs or slopes.
  • Guide dogs: While pets are permitted, you’re allowed to bring along a certified guide dog.
  • Multilingual audio guide: The cabins feature a multilingual audio guide in Spanish, English, French, or German. It offers key insights into everything about the Sierra de Mijas and the climb up Mount Calamorro.
  • Restrooms and changing tables: The park’s restrooms have baby changing tables and are designed to be wheelchair accessible. They’re located near the customer service office, at the cable car access plaza, and inside the La Cima restaurant.
  • Restaurant: The summit station is also home to La Cima, the highest restaurant in all of Benalmádena, which offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline in the distance. You’ll also find several kiosks and vending machines.
  • Bikes: You’re allowed to carry your own bike in the cable cars, as long as you remove the front wheel. You can then ride these on the cycling trails at the summit.
  • Pets: Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to bring your pets along. However, this rule doesn’t extend to guide or certified service dogs.
  • Food: Bringing food into the cable car is not allowed, with the exception of food for children below three years of age. You can grab a bite at the restaurant at the summit or at the kiosks and vending machines.

Insider tips to make the most of your Benalmádena Cable Car experience

  • Go early or go late for the best experience: The first hour after opening is the quietest, with minimal waiting for cabins and clearer views. Alternatively, aim for the last 1–2 hours before closing for softer light and fewer crowds.
  • Time your visit around the bird of prey show: The falconry demonstrations at the summit are one of the highlights, but they run at fixed times. Plan your ascent so you reach the top 15–20 minutes before the show for a good viewing spot.
  • Check the wind forecast before you go: The cable car can temporarily stop operations in strong winds, even on clear days. A quick weather check can save you from wasted travel time.
  • Don’t rush the summit (most people do): Many visitors take photos and head straight back down, but the walking trails and viewpoints around Mount Calvario are quieter and offer even better panoramic views.
  • Avoid peak midday hours in summer: Between 12pm and 3pm, queues are longer, and the heat at the summit can feel intense. Morning or late afternoon visits are far more comfortable and rewarding.
